Call for Papers
In cooperation with the Hamburg Ministry for Economy, Transport and Innovation the Hanseatic Parliament and the Baltic Sea Academy are organising the seventh Hanseatic Conference in May 2012. This year’s topic is
Innovation promotion and innovation strategies in regional policies around the "Mare Balticum”
Participants from all 11 countries around the Baltic Sea will join the conference, in particular:
- Scientists and scholars from different faculties;
- Honorary officials and managing directors of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Handicrafts as well as associations of the medium-sized business economy;
- Representatives of medium-sized enterprises;
- Politicians and representatives of public administrations;
- Representatives of the media and multipliers.
The various issues of innovation for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) and a future-oriented regional policy in the countries around the Mare Balticum will be discussed and handled at the conference, i.e.:
- Historical development of regional cooperation and spatial planning.
- Analysis, forecasts and scenarios for the development of economy and labor market in the Baltic Sea region and its subregions.
- Analysis, forecasts and concepts regarding the importance and development of centres.
- Analysis and approach to the development of region types (i.e. urban areas, development areas, rural areas).
- Innovative goals, strategies and plans in the regional and spatial planning policy.
- Goals, strategies and measures to promote innovations by SMEs.
- Best practice of promotion of innovations in centres and regions.
- Political strategy concepts of regional policy and transnational cooperation.
- Political strategies of promotion of innovations for SMEs and regional development.

Please send brief outlines of possible papers addressing the present and/or the future of innovation promotion for SMEs and regional policies in the Baltic Sea Region in the form of short abstracts (German or English, between 750 and a maximum of 1500 characters) to the following address by 20. Costs:
The selected speakers will be invited to the conference in Hamburg by the organisers. The travel and accommodation costs can be reimbursed. The lectures should be carried out in a short thesis and summarising form. The speech may be delivered in German, English, Russian or Polish (there will be translation between these four languages during the conference).
Publication:
The completed written papers should be submitted to the organisers by the start of the conference and will be published in a book form together with the results of the conference in autumn 2012.

In the middle of the Hamburg metropolis there is a unique exhibition site,
which connects creativity, opportunities, opposites and the use of natural
resources, including:
Ø IBA DOCK: An exhibit of innovative construction and energy saving technologies.
Ø Energy Mountain: A landfill hill becomes a mountain of renewable energy with wind power, solar power, landfill gases, biomass, and geothermal energy and will supply 4,000 households with electricity in the future.
Ø The Gateway to the World School houses everything under one roof – a learning city within the city.
Ø A housing estate from the1930s becomes a world neighbourhood, which offers a home for 1,700 people from 30 countries and serves as a model with the help of a cross-cultural planning workshop through thermal insulation and construction equipment also in the area of energy efficiency.
Ø A former anti-aircraft bunker is equipped with a biomass cogeneration plant, a water reservoir and a solar thermal system. This energy bunker supplies the world neighbourhood with hot water and heating.
Ø Deep geothermal energy awakens
potentials underground: A geothermal power plant could soon supply several
thousand apartments with heat and electricity.
